Compare licensed suppliers for pickup at MCT arrivals
We are a comparison service rather than a rental company. The search above queries licensed local suppliers and returns their live offers for pickup at the airport; the contract itself is signed with the supplier at handover, and every condition is printed in the voucher.

Airport handovers in Oman are not organised the way they are in Europe. Very few suppliers keep a staffed desk in the terminal; the normal arrangement is that a representative meets you after you clear customs.
It is what lets the supplier follow a delayed arrival instead of treating you as a no-show. Enter it at the booking stage, not on the day.
The representative waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, or directs you to the short-term car park a short walk away.
Walk around it before signing and record existing scratches, the fuel level and the tyres. This is the single best protection against a disputed charge on return.
Most Omani suppliers work same-to-same: return it with the level you got. The rule is written in the voucher, so read it before you drive off.
Travellers who have collected a car at MCT describe how it went on our reviews page.
The deposit is the part of an airport rental that catches travellers out. It is not a payment but a hold placed on the main driver's card, and it is released after the car comes back undamaged - which can take days to clear. On a family trip that block competes with the rest of your holiday budget.
Some suppliers list vehicles that carry no hold at all. They are usually the smaller and mid-range models, and the option appears and disappears with the season, so filter for it rather than assume it.
Filter availableWhere a supplier takes a debit card, you avoid the classic problem of arriving with a card that has no credit limit for a hold. The accepted card types are listed in the conditions of each offer.
Check conditionsThe amount sits in the offer conditions, not in the headline price. Seeing it in advance is the difference between planning your money and finding out at the desk at two in the morning.
Shown upfrontThe reservation itself is paid online by card. Cash is not accepted for the advance; the remainder is settled with the supplier under the terms in the voucher.
Card onlyStandard cover assumes sealed roads. Sand, wadi water and undercarriage damage are commonly outside it, which matters if you plan to leave the tarmac.
Read the clauseMany offers can be cancelled without charge up to a stated point before pickup. Useful when a connection is uncertain, and again stated per offer rather than site-wide.
Per offerThe mechanics of the hold, which cards are accepted for it and why cash is never taken for the advance are set out in full on our payment methods page.
The airport is west of the city, so the districts travellers stay in are strung out along the Sultan Qaboos Highway rather than clustered around the terminal. Traffic thickens between seven and nine in the morning.
Collecting at the airport rather than in the city saves a first drive through Muscat if you are heading inland the same day - the motorway west starts at the terminal door.

Where the supplier allows
Drive type is the decision that actually matters in Oman, and it is easier to get right before you land than to change at the terminal.
| Your plan | What to book | Why |
|---|---|---|
| City, coast, Wadi Shab, Nizwa | Any car or a compact model | Sealed roads the whole way |
| Jebel Akhdar or Jebel Shams | A genuine 4x4 | The police checkpoint verifies four-wheel drive and turns back the rest |
| Wahiba Sands, dune camps | Full-size 4x4 with low range | Soft sand needs weight, low range and deflated tyres |
| A month or longer in Muscat | Long-term booking | Weekly and monthly terms differ from the daily rate |
| Family with luggage | Mid-size SUV or estate | Boot space matters more than engine size on Omani motorways |
If your route leaves the tarmac, see 4x4 hire in Muscat - it covers drive types, the checkpoints and off-road cover in detail. For stays of a month or more, monthly car rental in Muscat is priced on different terms.
Collecting in the city instead of at the terminal is often cheaper and avoids airport surcharges - see car rental in Muscat.
Muscat holds most of the country's rental fleet, but it is not the only arrival point, and the difference in choice between them is large.
The main gateway and the deepest supplier pool in Oman. Widest choice of no-deposit cars and of 4x4 models.
Second airport of the country and the gateway to Dhofar. Demand spikes during the khareef monsoon season, when cars sell out well ahead - see car hire Salalah.
A small terminal in the Batinah region with limited rental presence. Many travellers collect in Muscat instead and drive up - see car hire Sohar.
Serves the industrial coast in Al Wusta. Rental supply is thin, and booking ahead is not optional there.
Conditions are set by each supplier, not by us. The binding version is the one in your voucher, but the pattern across Muscat is consistent.
A national licence in Latin script is accepted by most suppliers. GCC licences are accepted directly. Licences in other alphabets are normally paired with an International Driving Permit.
Presented at handover along with the booking voucher. A visa or entry stamp may be checked with it.
The card used for the deposit must belong to the main driver. A third party's card is not accepted for the hold.
Set per supplier and higher for large 4x4 models than for small cars. A young-driver surcharge may apply below the standard threshold.
Must be added to the agreement and present their own licence. An undeclared driver voids the cover in the event of an accident.
Driving a Muscat rental into the UAE requires written permission and separate insurance, and many suppliers refuse it outright - crossing from Dubai to Oman explains the same rules in reverse.
The same questions asked in a wider context, including insurance exclusions and one-way returns, are answered in our FAQ about renting in Oman.
Yes. Licensed local suppliers hand cars over at Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Seeb. Most work on a meet-and-greet basis in the arrivals hall rather than from a permanent desk, so the car is handed over after your flight lands and the pickup point is printed on your voucher.
Some suppliers accept a debit card and some list cars with no security deposit at all, which removes the need for a card with a large available limit. The advance payment is made online by card at booking. Cash is not accepted for the advance.
In the arrivals hall on the ground floor of the passenger terminal, or in the short-term car park next to it. The exact meeting point and the supplier contact number are stated in the voucher you receive after booking.
Many long-haul flights land in Muscat late at night or before dawn, and suppliers schedule handovers around arrival times rather than office hours. Give your flight number when booking so the supplier can track a delayed arrival.
The airport sits in Seeb, roughly 30 km west of the Ruwi and Mutrah business districts, connected by the Sultan Qaboos Highway. The drive takes about 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, and around 15 minutes to Al Mouj.
A national licence in Latin script is accepted by most suppliers, and GCC licences are accepted directly. An International Driving Permit is normally requested alongside licences issued in other alphabets. The requirement is set by the supplier and stated in the conditions of each offer.
One-way returns to a city address or to another Omani city are offered by some suppliers, usually with a relocation fee. Choose the drop-off point in the search form before booking, because the price and the availability change once the return location differs.
Muscat International Airport (MCT) has by far the largest fleet. Salalah Airport (SLL) is the second option and matters in the khareef season, and Sohar Airport (OHS) has a much smaller selection. Availability outside Muscat is thinner, so book earlier.
